The tools we need:
There are some tools we have to have to make these shorts. Cutters, sewing pattern, elastic ribbon, and the fabric is essential.
The glue pen, safety pin, and clips are tools that make the job easier. You can easily make the Havana Shorts without these tools.
If you want to read more about the tools I use and recommend, you can click here.

Cutting the Fabric
We cut the fabric according to the patterns. The Havana shorts sewing pattern comes in a variety of sizes, so I print out the pages I need to make the shorts in size 98. You can read more about how to use the Happy-Sewing pattern here.

Folding the ribbons:
The first thing I like to have ready are the ribbons. I fold all three ribbons and apply clips on each side and sew them together.
We are using a Baby Lock Victory Serger for these seams. But you can use any sewing machine. What's important is that we use a seam that allows some stretch.

Joining the panels:
The front and back panel is made out of four panels. We join the two front panels and then the two back panels by aligning them and stitching them together. I recommend that you stitch them together on the backside of the panels to keep the seams invisible. Make sure to choose a seam that fits the fabric.

The Pocketpieces:
First Pocket panel
We align the pocket panels with the pocket opening at the front piece. We have the pocket upside down like the picture to hide the seam. We then sew the pocket piece in place.
The Second pocket panel
We align the second pocket panel on top of the other pocket panel and align the inner edges. Ive applied clips to keep the panels in place. We then stitch the pocket pieces together.

Joining the front and back panel
We join the front and back pieces by sewing a bottom and side seam. To make the alignment easier I press the front and back pieces first. Both pieces are inside out, like the picture.
I sew an overlock seam with the Baby Lock Victory Serger.

The Leg Ribbons:
We start to work on the ribbons by folding them again. This time we fold them in the opposite direction as I do on the image. I do it on both ribbons and then I install it in the shorts. If you need a more detailed description on ribbons, you can watch the video below.
The Waist Ribbon:
We install the eyelets before we start to work on the ribbons. We then fold them, but remember to leave room for the elastic band in the ribbon. You can see more on the waist ribbon in the video below.
