Brother CS7205 | Review

The Brother CS7205 was first introduced in 2016 and was aimed at the intermediate sewing and quilting marked. It has a semi-strong motor and a long list of included accessories We are going to test the Brother CS7205 to find out if it's worth the buy.

On Paper, The brother has what it takes to be one of their best sewing machines, maybe even of all times!

Accessories

Brother has always been very generous with including all the necessary accessories. This is especially true when it comes to the Brother CS7205.

You get 11 presser feet, made to compliment the 150 included stitches.

The greatest accessory for me is the wide table. It gives room to take on bigger projects that requires more space. It has also had a bobbin/Storage box that you remove when you need the free arm or when you install the wide table.

The Design:

In 2022, it's safe to say that the Brother CS7205 has some interesting design features. First of all, is the two-page stitch selection "book" that you turn, placed right in front of the machine. The idea behind this is actually pretty good as it's easy to see and select the stitches you want to use. The 2.6" LCD Screen should have been placed closer to the book so that your brain automatically understands that they are connected and so that you dont have to move your head while selecting stitches, but that's ok. The screen also features other information such as stitch length, stitch width, and recommended presser foot. That's the information you need while sewing. So Brother took the diplomatic road and placed it in the middle. The blue/light blue color scheme makes the sewing machine look 10 years older than it really is. Other than that, this sewing machine is designed like any other Brother Sewing machine. it has the Brother drop-in bobbin system and the Presser foot click system and the needle threader. So even if the Brother CS7205 has an interesting design, it's not a bad design. If you are upgrading from another brother sewing machine, you will feel right at home in front of the Brother CS7205

Performance:

The Motor in the Brother CS7205 is a bit small, but the placement of the shaft and the strength of the feed dogs almost make a bigger motor unnecessary. IT can handle almost any type of fabric, like Jersey, Terry, and wool. it's also able to handle multiple layers of these fabrics.

But I did encounter a few technical issues along the way, a lower needle message when the needle was lowered, a few lags here and there on the stitches. These issues occurred the most when I put some pressure on the machine, like adding layers or sewing with the "wrong needle" So All in all the Brother CS7205 performs ok. But these errors and issues along the way are not something I was expecting from the Brother CS7205. It's safe to say that I am a little disappointed.

Brother has claimed to have fixed these issues 3 years ago, so why am I experiencing them today, on a brand new machine? I have asked Brother for an explanation, but they haven't responded yet. When they do I will update the article.

Worth the Price?

Between 250 and all the way, up to 320 USD is the price for a new Brother CS7205. This makes it extremely affordable. Its closest competitor, The Singer Patchwork 7285Q costs 469USD in March 2022.

so back to the question; Is the Brother CS7205 worth the price, It definitely is.

But there are more drawbacks to the Brother CS7205. We will talk about them below.

Dark and mirrorless

The Brother CS7205 has no mirror button

With its 150 included stitches, you would think that brother would have included a mirror button on the sewing machine, but they have not.

The mirror button allows you to mirror any stitches. This allows you to create a beautifully symmetric design with a touch of a button. Lacking this function is a huge minus. It might not be a deal-breaker as you can turn the garment around instead, but it's a lot more hassle. The Screen is also sometimes hard to read and should have been fitted with a stronger backlight. The bobbin box/Storage box could have been made bigger, as there is plenty of space for it. On the Brother Overlockers, you can find storage space on the wide table, but not here.

User experiences

On average on Amazon, Joann and Brother.com the sewing machine gets 4 out of 5 stars. Most reviews are positive, but we need to address the most common negative reviews.

In the beginning, users have reported uneven stitches. Brother has since blamed the feed dogs and corrected the issues related to uneven stitches. If you are buying a new version of the Brother CS7205, there is a small chance you still encounter minor technical issues. But if you are buying a second-hand CS7205, I highly recommend that you test sew the machine first. There are also many reports on the user interface, many users think that the Brother CS7205 is to demanding. I dont share that impression, as many of the newer sewing machines are like this. the sewing machine is designed to help you archive the best results.

The Conclusion

On Paper, The brother has what it takes to be one of their best sewing machines, maybe even of all times! But the technical issues I encountered and the feedback from other users confirm that these issues might be a bigger problem with the CS7205. The lack of the mirror stitches button and the overall design is also pulling the CS7205 down from the top. I do also wish it has a bigger motor.

On the positive side, the Brother CS7205 is very versatile and offers great value for money.

Happy-Sewing has rated the Brother CS7205 7 out of 10 Butterflies
